High-Efficiency 16mm × 36mm Brushless Gear Motor – For Medical Devices & Precision Robotics

Short Description:

The M16-36-BLDC-G series is a 16mm diameter brushless DC motor with an extended 36mm body length, integrated with a precision planetary gearbox. Compared to the standard 30mm body version, the additional 6mm of stack length accommodates a longer stator with more copper windings and stronger rare-earth magnets, resulting in significantly higher torque output without increasing diameter. This integrated gear motor solution brings the advantages of brushless technology—long life, high efficiency, and low noise—to applications requiring more power in tight spaces.

The extended 36mm body delivers approximately 25–30% higher stall torque compared to the 30mm version, reaching up to 0.65 Nm at the gearbox output with appropriate ratio selection. No-load speeds range from 5,000 to 18,000 RPM depending on winding selection, allowing designers to optimize for either high-speed or high-torque applications. The larger rotor mass also provides improved thermal inertia, allowing the motor to handle higher peak loads without overheating.

Unlike tiny metal brush DC motors that wear out after a few hundred hours, the brushless design of the M16-36 eliminates mechanical commutation, removing the primary wear component. Typical operational life reaches 10,000+ hours—up to 15 times longer than comparable miniature brushed motors. The absence of brushes also eliminates electrical arcing, reducing EMI and making the motor suitable for sensitive medical and electronic devices. Motor efficiency reaches 83%, critical for battery-powered wearable and portable applications where every milliwatt counts.

The precision planetary gearbox is available with hardened metal gears for durability or engineered plastic gears for cost-sensitive, lower-torque applications. Available in 1, 2, or 3 stages, gear ratios range from 4:1 to 150:1, allowing designers to optimize for either output speed or output torque. Maximum output torque reaches 0.65 Nm—sufficient for direct actuation of small mechanisms such as smart locks, micro pumps, and miniature robot joints. The compact gearbox design adds only 15–30mm to the overall length, maintaining a total package length under 66mm.

Three integrated hall effect sensors provide commutation feedback for electronic speed controllers (ESC) and enable precise speed control and direction changes. The hall sensors allow the motor to start smoothly from zero speed without cogging, essential for positioning applications such as surgical staplers and camera gimbals. For closed-loop speed or position control, an optional magnetic encoder (up to 1,024 PPR) can be added to the motor rear shaft.

The extended 36mm length provides 20% more surface area for passive heat dissipation compared to the 30mm version, allowing the motor to handle higher continuous currents. The high efficiency (83%) minimizes heat generation, and ball bearings on both motor ends ensure smooth rotation and long life even under continuous duty. The housing can be specified with IP54 protection (dust-protected and water-resistant) for applications requiring environmental sealing.

OEM customers can specify gear ratio, output shaft diameter (3mm, 4mm, or 5mm), output shaft length, and end configurations including flat, D-cut, or keyway. Custom lead wire length and connector terminations (Molex, JST, Hirose, or custom) are supported. Encoder integration, electromagnetic brake options, and special winding voltages are available for volume orders.

Each M16-36-BLDC-G motor undergoes 100% final inspection including no-load speed, no-load current, hall sensor functionality, insulation resistance, dielectric strength, and mechanical runout testing. Production follows ISO 9001:2015 quality management processes. RoHS and REACH compliance documentation is available. Sample motors with matched electronic speed controllers are available for engineering evaluation.
